About Me
Hello, my name is Sarah Sanders, and I am a textile artist and felt maker. I currently work from my studio in my garden near Burford in the Cotswold. I love making pieces textile art that I sell in local galleries and sharing my knowledge of felt-making by running felt-making and creative stitch workshops in schools and for adults.
From a young age, I have always loved sewing and being creative, especially in embroidery and hand stitching. I completed a foundation course at the London School of Fashion and then graduated from the University of Arts, Chelsea College of Design in 2000 with a BA honor in creative stitched textiles. During my final year, I developed a deep love for felt making and working with wool and natural fibers, which eventually led to my final collection. Felt making is a medium that I find both highly creative and tactile and forms a unique fabric for creating my embroideries and for sculpting flowers. Felting is an ancient craft rich in history and culture with lots of organic qualities.
Over the last 20 years, I have been developing my own style and techniques in creative work with felt, utilizing a variety of wet and dry felting techniques. I also like to incorperate silks and natural fibres in my work which adds an extra texture and brightness . Felt-making is a hands-on process that children adore, and even at a young age, they can achieve amazing results and have lots of fun.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about my workshops and artistic endeavors, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your attention.
